An Edinburgh hotel, Premier Inn, is claimed to be the first in the UK to be powered by battery. The lithium-ion battery will be able to power the hotel, including its restaurant, for up to three hours after a two-hour charge. The hotel expects to save £20,000 a year on its energy bill as a result of the energy storage implementation. The hotel’s parent company Whitbread said the trial of the battery storage technology would help its commitment to reduce its carbon emissions by 50% by 2025.
